LONDON FASHION WEEK DEFINATELY MADE A STATEMENT THIS SEASON. These opening collections for s/s 2010 helped the industry recollect its memory on the lack of diversity and its perpetual skewed perception on body image. It was a literal breath of fresh air. PPQ cast all black models for their show beginning with model Sessilee Lopez. The hair was reminiscent of the 1990's hair made famous by the Kid N' Play "House Party" films. The garments had graphic prints, Addidas logos, large tilted hats, and vivid accessories. Mark Fast challenged the body image issue casting a few average size (plus size in the industry) models wearing fitted knit dresses. Hugging each curve and celebrating the female form. At the Sykes presentation she cast a couple models "Of a certain age" beautifully translating crafted garments shouldn't be limited to a certain age group. Mary Katrantzous' collection had bold, graphic prints, bracelets, necklaces, and very large cuffs also adorning the ankles. The LP.BG presentation had a demure and chic element to it. The clean silhouette gave it a fresh and airy quality. And every once in a while adding a pop of color as an accent. The collections were with out a doubt unapologetic. To sum up the opening of LDN Fashion Week in just one word...Profound!
